My favorite dish at Thanksgiving dinner isn't the turkey or stuffing....it is Mom's salad, made with pomegranates.
Aunt Fay’s Thanksgiving Day Apple Salad
3-4 apples, various types, peeled and chopped (I like granny smith and golden delicious)
1 pomegranate, peeled and seeded
2 pears, peeled and chopped
1 bunch red grapes, halved
1 large can mandarin orange slices, drained
2-3 bananas, sliced
3/4 – 1 pint whipping cream chopped
nuts (optional)
Toss fruit together in large bowl. Whip cream with beaters until thick. Add sugar to taste. Stir cream into fruit until covered. Sprinkle nuts on top, if desired.

Your kids will eat plain pomegranates? I just bought one a week ago with the idea to make an apple salad. Your mom's recipe seems a little more embellished. I might try it with the pears, grapes, and oranges too.
We always ate it with mixed apples, pomegranates, walnuts, & CoolWhip.
Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Yum! I'm going to have to try this!
I can't wait to try this one. My grandma has a similar recipe, but the additon of pomegranates sounds sooo good.
Ade, nice pomegranate photo. Good work! Aren't they an amazing fruit? Carson said, "They seem like a treat because they are SOOOO good!"
Thanks, Kam. I like playing with the settings on my camera with a subject that won't run away! I agree with Carson...they pretty much are a treat! mmm!

Do you ever watch the amazing race? Mike and I watch it and guess who is a contestant? Kent Cothran, remember him? He is competeing with his girlfriend, and they are the goth couple, it took us half the episode before mike figured it out. Go goths!
I think you can see him online at CBS.com or something.
Jani...so glad you stopped in! How can I find you? I wish I had your e-mail address....
Sorry... I guess I should have left that vital bit of info since my blog is private! My email is janicotton@gmail.com- email me and I'll send you an invite for my ultra-exciting blog *ha*ha*ha*
So I've never made anything with pomegranites... I've only eaten some of the seeds- do you ONLY use the seeds in the recipe? This sounds yummy!!
