I've never before been spoiled with Tivo (although I've often coveted the magic recording power of others). That is, until football season started this year. Chad insisted that we NEEDED to have access to "the Mountain" and I was happy to oblige, since satellite would also mean we could get BYU TV and watch Conference at home in our jammies, just like livin' in Utah! And, along with the package came a lovely little black digital recording box.
I love my DVR. Chad cruise through an eternally l-o-n-g football game in an hour. I can record "The Office" to help ease the pain of folding that mountain of laundry I always have on Thursday night. The kids' shows are at beck and call.
But, I was the most grateful for my DVR today. We had recorded a special about President Monson that BYU TV was showing between conference sessions. I turned it on today while I was working on a sewing project. What a man! I've always known President Monson is a worthy, honorable man. This documentary was additional fuel on my testimony fire. President Monson is such an example of listening to the Spirit and heeding His voice, no matter what.
I loved the final words he spoke on the program: "I always want the Lord to know that if He needs an errand run, Tom Monson will run that errand for him."
I want to be that kind of errand runner, too.

I loved that special too, and I LOVE my DVR...President Monson is an absolutely incredible man.
Maris insisted on upgrading our cable service to one that included "the Mountain" because we HAVE to have access to U of U sports.
I wish I had DVR. We never watch anything except for Fox News, but I feel like there are a few things I would watch if I could watch them in peace and quiet after kids went to bed. On a different note, I like the picture you have on your profile now. It is beautiful!
Oh Ade, I loved this special! I saw it on Sunday between sessions at home. Jacob took the older three to a baptism in the ward, so I stayed home with Ben because it was his naptime. I was so grateful I stayed home. I loved loved loved what I learned about President Monson.
And I echo what you said...I want the Lord to know that I will run His errands. Whenever He asks. This has been on my mind A LOT this week. I'll tell you why in a couple of days. Thanks for your great thoughts!
That was a great special on President Monson. How on earth he could go full strength on 4 hours of sleep is beyond me. . .
BTW, I am so jealous of the DVR! I really could care less about having cable, but I'd love to be able to tivo. Maybe someday. . .
i never thought of service that way. i appreciate emmensely the child that gets up quick to grab me a diaper, or leaves a video game to put away a stray toy. those little things lighten my load. i guess in a way, i'm helping Him out with the extras.
Wasn't that just the best Ade. I completely echo your sentiments. We are blessed to be led by a man who exemplifies service.
I'm so with you, I love DVR, it has changed my life...my TV viewing life that is :)
Oh, there are not enough words to describe how much I love DVR! (And how much Ron loves The Mountain!) :o) It truly is magic - no other words to describe this luxury. :o)
I did get your message - I am soooo sorry I haven't called back yet! This last Saturday was our school's Fall Festival, which I was co-chair of. I think I worked enough hours on it these last few weeks to equal a full time job! I'm ready for a break - good lunch and great company. :o) I'll call you!
