life is not a straight line

I’m admittedly a Facebook holdout. I’m not sure why, except it is my own small way to be different. Like refusing to read “Breaking Dawn.” I’m such a rebel. But, I digress…

I think the real reason I can’t sign up with Facebook is because my brain cannot manage to be connected to any more people. What a problem! I’ve been blessed, in overabundance, with amazing friends, family, acquaintances, neighbors. People I really, really like to be in touch with. Christmas-card-writing season, while quite possibly my favorite part of the holiday, is downright daunting. I love it. I really do. But, Facebook would add to the crazies.

----

Friday night, amid a plateful of goodies and surrounded by the constant (wonderful) chatter of female friends, I was filled with gratitude for people. We were gathered to say ‘goodbye’ to two friends who are moving; two women who have managed, in only one year, to wind themselves into my heart. Maybe my moving three times in three years has made me good at getting attached fast. Maybe I’ve just been extra lucky to run into great people along the way. Whatever the reason, I think saying goodbye pretty much stinks.

---

“See you the next time you pass through!” I called out as we left the restaurant. We’d just spent the afternoon and evening reconnecting with a high school friend (and her darling boys) who were in town, waylaid for the night en route back home. A friend with whom I lost contact for about a decade, but who now (thanks to blogging and the common denominator of meeting up in Utah), I cherish as one of those “forever friends” Michael McLean crooned about back in the day.

---

“Life is not a straight line.” That’s what Lloyd Newell mused on this morning’s Spoken Word. Coming and going, moving and staying, passing through. I, for one, have been blessed by the lives that have snaked through mine.

What a sweet post! I'm glad your life has snaked through mine, too!

I feel the same way, but I gave in to Facebook...at first I thought I was going to be so exclusive, but with each "friend" I accepted or invited, I had such fond memories and have actually loved the reconnect, although casual, of the whole thing!! So I here I am with over 300 facebook friends, and I can't imagine my life without each and every one of them!! :o)

I am grateful for the short time that I was able to serve in the YW with you, and what a blessing your friendship and example has been to me...

Adri,

You need to write a book! You are truly gifted with words! I look forward to seeing you next month, but please- no snakes;)

Amen, my friend! And I love your picture at the top, we have a couple of those feet pictures from when Josh was born framed upstairs in our hallway. We never did it with Luke, but I will definitely have to get more once Tommy arrives!

Facebook is kinda lame anyway. I was totally a holdout until a couple months ago. I stayed up late with Keith as he finished some work and after I looked at the entire internet(felt like it), the only thing left was facebook so I gave in.

But I gotta say, blogs rule!! I love keeping in touch that way. Even though we are so far (too far) apart, I love watching your kids grow up. :)

Hugs...

Oh, Adri, I'm so glad we got together one last time. I'm not feeling that instant connect in my new ward, but I know it will take time. Thanks for being such a great friend. I'm really counting on our kids meeting up at BYU someday and maybe we'll end up with common grandchildren (ha ha)! Miss you sweetie!

I, too, am a facebook and Breaking Dawn holdout, but I really enjoy your amazing writing skills on your blog. Hopefully,we will get to to see your face without the "book" on your visit to Utah!!

Don't do it Adri! Don't ever give in to Facebook. As you can see once I was in, I lost my love for blogging and writing. Well, not lost just redirected. I haven't checked your blog in months. Sure is great to read you again. Thanks for being a "rebel".
