in like a lion...

They called it a 'snow day,' those big-wigs at the school district. Sure, there were some flurries this morning, but by mid-day, this was the view out my window.Oh well. We decided that in order to make the most of our day off, sugar would most definitely need to be involved. After perusing my stash of 'treats-to-make-someday' recipes we came up with the idea to make homemade doughnuts! Dal and I mixed up the dough while Kate was at school (yes, our preschool co-op will carry on, no matter what those yahoos at ASD20 say the weather is going to do!) Turns out, this recipe makes a LOT of doughnuts. I started making phone calls to round up some doughnut eating helpers. We ended up with 2 dozen doughnuts, 2 dozen doughnut holes, 11 kids and 3 moms.
And, lots of yum!P.S. I followed the recipe linked above, but didn't make the glaze. Instead, we made a simple powdered sugar/milk/vanilla glaze and used chocolate syrup as another option. The kids also enjoyed 'topping' their treats with sprinkles, cinnamon sugar, coconut or chopped up chocolate chips.

Yu-um! This has been on our "make someday" list for a long time, too! Yours look awesome. Do you have an electric skillet to maintain the oil temperature? We don't...and that's what I worry about. Let me know how you did it.

Those look sooooo good, I just grabbed the recipe from the link. Once I'm allowed to eat sweet goodness like that again I'm so making them!

that's in my "treats-to-make-someday" stash too. maybe i'll get brave someday and actually do it. i've looked for those mini doughnut shapers like they have at the fair, but haven't found one. maybe i really shouldn't have one. it could be very dangerous, i think.
